Kirby's History
I was born in Seattle, but spent most of my life growing up in Fresno, California. Art has always been an important part of my life, from grade school finger paintings to detailed yearbook signatures that were portraits of fellow students to my current semi-abstract works.
In 1991 I joined the U.S. Navy. For most of the next four years I was stationed in Bremerton Washington. Upon getting out of the Navy, I bought a sailboat in San Diego and spent a year fixing it up with the intention of sailing back up to the state of Washington to live. In August of 1996 I set sail for Washington but never arrived in Seattle. Heavy weather off of the coast of San Francisco caused damage which forced me to pull in San Francisco where I spent the next 5 years.
During those 5 years I obtained my Associate Degree in Fine Arts, worked as a computer programmer, got married, and had children. There was not much time for art.
In 2001 we moved to Missouri where I have started to focus on my art again. Currently, I am an active member of Art Dimensions (www.artdimensions.org) and have art hanging in several locations in the St Louis area. This summer, I also participated in several larger art shows as well as having work in exhibits around the area.
Next year I hope to enter in even more shows, create more work, and be increasingly successful as an artist.
